as crazy as it sounds, I think Khabi was a great mentor for Dubes. Luo to TBay'd definitely prove to help. Where does Lindback go?

Why would they go after Lu when they just traded a pretty good young player for Bishop.

The only rationale I can come up with is that the team would be looking for more security. Luongo's more of a sure thing than Bishop or Lindback. Still, like I said, I don't see it happening.

I don't think it'll happen. Displacing one of the goaltenders he worked to acquire just doesn't seem like Yzerman's style. Both Lindback and Bishop are capable. It was the defense in front of them that struggled. As such, that's where I expect Yzerman to focus his attention.

It would be imperative to buyout Lecavalier IMO if the Lightning were ever to entertain a trade for Luongo.

Why would anyone trade for that contract?

Just let Vancouver either put him on waivers or buy him out then make an offer.

This is one of the dumbest suggestions I have seen. Is Lou going to mentor Bishop (27 years old) for 6-10 years. Use your head man. Bishop will be the #1 goalie next year. There are very few teams and maybe none that will take that horrible contract.

Yeah, and I'm not sure that I'd make the Lecavalier/Luongo swap. Filling one minor hole to create a major one doesn't seem smart. Like you, I just don't see a way to manage both contracts for next year. Still, stranger things have happened.

It'll be interesting to see whether or not it gets to that point.

The real idea would be for him to mentor Vasilevski. Having him around Bishop and Lindback certainly wouldn't hurt though...

Plus, if competing next season is the goal, committing to an unproven number one guy is a risk. You're never too old to be mentored by a guy who's been there, and done that. Luongo's a winner, and if you don't believe that his presence would help any goaltender in the Lightning system then we're probably not going to agree on much.

Also unlikely considering Yzerman has invested assets with the trades involving Bishop and Lindback. Trading for another goalie, regardless of who it is wouldnt send a confident message about his asset management skills.

Another great point. I think he has to, and should, go with Lindback and Bishop.

isn't that sort of what he just did with Lindback? In the sense that he was offered the starting role then dealt for a better option

I'm not sure that it's so cut and dry. Lindback was playing fantastically right before he was injured. I believe they dealt for Bishop in a last ditch attempt to rescue the season once Lindback went down. The word at the end of this year was that they would alternate time in a 1A/1B situation next season.

What you said about Luongo's contract is exactly why I think Buffalo will get more for Miller as opposed to what the Canucks will get for Luongo.

Miller's pay for the season is higher, but it's also only for this coming season.

Ah. I don't think it should happen, but it wouldn't be the end of the world to see Luo in a mentor role in TB. What'd you guys think of Carle this year? I'd hoped EDM would sign him last summer. Only saw 1.5 TB games this year and he wasn't playing a lot in the ones I saw.

He was above par, not spectacular, but did a good job overall. I wish he would have had a more reliable defensive style partner.

With Bishop and Lindback, I don't see this happening unless one of them is going to Vancouver in the trade.

I still think a Luongo for Vinny trade straight up is best option for everybody
